Access, roads and parking
- Primary access will be off Luton Road in the South West corner of the site. Secondary access will be from Chalk Hill to the North, Stony Lane to the East and an additional access point on Luton Road.
- Extensive appraisals have been undertaken to determine the potential traffic impact.
- These demonstrated that the trip generation from the development could be absorbed into the available network without the need for significant new offsite highway infrastructure.
- The Transportation Consultants have identified locations on the existing network in Wigmore where minor improvements will assist in reducing congestion. The development can fund such suggested improvements.
- In addition, the principal spine road has been designed to act as a relief road to Cockernhoe and Mangrove Green, thus alleviating the existing problems of rat-running through the village. The relief road will be constructed in the initial phase of development to avoid additional traffic through Cockernhoe.
|
- Bus gates have been included in the proposals in order to avoid traffic passing through the development and into Wandon End.
- Parking bays and improved visibility splays will be provided on Chalk Hill.
- Car parking will be introduced in accordance with national and local standards.
- A travel plan is being submitted with the application to encourage local residents to use sustainable methods of travel.
